There’s a small wildflower bank behind the pond, made up of the top spits of turf removed when the pond was dug. I’ve introduced a couple of flowers with seeds collected locally, but mainly it’s been left to establish itself.
This is a record of the flowers that appear there, during the year 2022, and will be updated as new ones open.
The cowslips are an import – baby plants from my mother’s house on the edge of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds They’re gradually becoming established.

The first buttercup opened, a brassy glare in the morning sunshine and almost impossible to photograph as the petals are so brightly reflective! I’m not sure quite what species of buttercup it is.

Wood Avens (also known as Herb Bennet) has been flowering for about a week, but the fragile flowers are short-lived and get wind damage. I caught up with this one this morning.

Ox-eye daisy opened this morning. It’s getting rather invasive, crowding out meadowsweet and other things, so towards the end of th flowering season I’ll have to dig up most of the clump. Still, a cheerful sight.
