after a short break …

This year, there seems to have been a little gap in the “cut flowers from the garden”. Though there are plenty of Welsh poppies, flowering thyme, cranesbill and suchlike cheering the place up outdoors, they don’t really lend themselves to being cut for vases! On Friday, I picked some irises in very tight bud, the first of which has now opened, giving a stately and slightly Japanese feeling to that corner of the room.

It was, at least partly, because I was expecting to see Gethyn for the afternoon. He found it impossible to park, so I jumped in his car and we went into town. Sadly, at half past 4, the cafe by Pitchcroft had closed, so we parked in Copenhagen Street carpark and went into town. A very pleasant visit for a couple of hours – always good to see him. He’s my oldest friend, as we went to Audley House together starting in 1962 !
